This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.

Tzafon USY Online is backwards-compatible -- that is, it will work with any browser or Internet device known to mankind. A screen-reader (a tool that reads a website aloud for blind people) and a braille converter will have absolutely no problem accessing this site and converting it to an understandable medium to the person on the other end. In fact, if you view this website in Lynx, a text-only browser (no images, no colours, no nothing), you will be able to navigate it and find your vitally needed information just as easily as with the latest version of Internet Explorer.

However, some browsers/Internet devices comply with web standards more than others and will display this page more prettily than others. You will be able to access the content with any device; though whether you will see the design (which isn't too shabby, by the way, if you happen to see it) is merely a question of the standards-compliance of your browsing tool. No need to worry, you can still find what you need...

What is HeChalutzim?

Chalutzim is a Hebrew word defined as pioneers. Chalutzim are people who initiate; people who motivate others and are always interested and excited about new experiences. Chalutzim members are USYers who want to know more about Israel--just like the chalutzim that settled Israel, the Jewish homeland.

Who is eligible to join HeChalutzim?

Any USYers who is a paid member of their chapter and region.

What do I receive as a Chalutzim member?

Once you're signed up to be a Chalutz, you'll receive your Chalutzim membership card and HeChalutzon, the Chalutzim newsletter, written by Chalutzim about USY and world events pertaining to Israel.

Are there any Chalutzim events?

During the course of the year, regional and international Chalutzim programs, events and seminars are held throughout the 17 USY regions. At these seminars, a USY shaliach will conduct membership ceremonies for any new Chalutzim members. There is also the annual Chalutzim Seminar in Israel, when 17 Chalutzim, one from each region, travel to Israel for ten days of learning and experiencing the sights and sounds of Israel, while also seeing USY's ongoing programs in Israel.

What else do I do as a Chalutz?

You'll be involved in a number of activities as a Chalutzim member. You can help prepare regional Israel newsletters and programs, join your regional Israel Awareness Committee, organizing Israel events and kinnusim for your region. You also have priority acceptance to all USY Israel programs as a Chalutzim member.

How will I learn about Israel?

As a Chalutz, you're expected to acquire some Israel insights on your own. That can be done through learning five new Hebrew words every week; writing to an Israeli pen pal; reading about Israel in newspapers and magazines; and any other Israel info that you get your hands on.

How do I join?

All you have to do is complete the application on the international USY website and you will be billed for the $10.00 membership fee. You'll be notified each year about renewing your Chalutzim membership.
